Instructions regarding course application within the programme

Newly admitted programme students are automatically admitted to the first-semester courses within the programme. The course selection is completed in connection to the introductory meeeting for the Master's programme.

After the first semester all students must apply to the courses they wish to study the upcoming semesters within the programme.

The courses are open for applications during pre-defined admission rounds at antagning.se (the Swedish version of universityadmissions.se).

Courses given in an autumn semester are open for applications in the spring, during 15 March-15 April.

Courses given in a spring semester are open for applications in the autumn, during 15 September-15 October.

The courses given in the upcoming autumn semester for students already enrolled on the programme are open for applications from 15 September to 15 October 2025.

To apply for admission to courses within the programme at antagning.se select Log in at the top of the page. In the Log-in window, under ‟Are you already a student?”, select Lund University in the drop-down menu, then click on Go to student portal. You will need your student account and your password.

If you have lost your user identity or your password, you can get a new one on https://passport.lu.se/. Log in with your personal identity number and your password for antagning.se. You can also get a temporary code from the Student Reception at the University, which you can use to create a new password. In addition, you can contact the LU Service Desk by phone on 046-222 90 00 on weekdays between 08:00 and 17:00. Note that LU Service Desk cannot answer admissions questions.

If you need a new password for universityadmissions.se or antagning.se, please follow instructions here.

It is important that you submit your application in good time! There may be many applicants trying to access the admission system close to deadline. All courses will be closed for applications after the deadline and may or may not be reopened for late applications before the start of the semester. If you intend to write your Bachelor's thesis next semester contact the director of studies before the application deadline.

When applying, make sure to select the options marked as “Course within programme” on antagning.se to ensure that the courses are included in your programme. As a programme student, you should prioritise your programme courses at the top of your application list to avoid unnecessary gaps in your studies. Note that certain courses—such as degree project courses—are only available to programme students.

If your courses do not appear under your master programme despite being logged in as a programme student, you must contact your student counsellor immediately so the issue can be resolved. This applies only to courses within the Master programme in mathematics and numerical analysis, not to courses offered by other faculties or universities.

You may apply for courses within the programme as long as you have been registered for fewer credits than the total scope of the programme (120 credits for a Master’s degree).

Please note that what matters is not how many credits you have earned, but how many credits you have been registered for within the programme. If you apply for courses within the programme and it turns out that you are already registered for the full number of credits corresponding to your programme, your application may be transferred to a freestanding course, if possible.

Notification of admission and confirmation requirement

You will receive a notification of selection results, which you must respond to in order to accept or decline the offered study places. The date of the notification and the deadline for replying can be found on antagning.se. It is your responsibility to ensure that the notification reaches you.

If you have not received your notification of admission by 10 December at the latest (for the upcoming spring semester), call 0771-550 720 to ensure you can respond in time. The final day to reply is 15 December 2025.

It is extremely important to respond to this notification by 15 December, either accepting or declining the offered study place. Applicants who do not reply by this date will lose any places they have been offered—whether accepted or on the waiting list. The second notification of selection results will be communicated on 18 December.

Students admitted to the Master’s Programme in Mathematics are guaranteed a place in the compulsory and alternative-compulsory courses within the programme, provided that they meet the entry requirements, submit their application on time within the programme, and confirm their attendance by responding to the notification of admission.

You may receive a conditional admission offer for a course even if you do not currently meet the entry requirements. By the start of the course at the latest, you must be able to demonstrate that you fulfill these requirements. As with all admissions, lower-prioritised alternative options will automatically be cancelled. If you wish to register for a course for which you are not eligible at the time of registration, you should contact your study adviser to explore the possibility of an exemption from the entry requirements.
