Highlights from the Winter Conference in Statistics 2026 on Modern Statistics and Data Science Education

We will report from the Winter Conference in Statistics 2026, for which this year's theme was "Modern Statistics and Data Science Education". 

There were very inspiring and thought provoking lectures by Mine Çetinkaya-Rundel, Jo Røislien and Katharina Schüller. In particular the lectures discussed aspects of the influence of AI on teaching, how to accommodate AI in teaching and challenges and possibilities that AI may pose in education (Çetinkaya-Rundel), the notion of data literacy and the connection and relevance of data literacy to the use of AI models (Schüller), and how one may use multiple human sensory inputs for increasing the understanding of core concepts in mathematics (Røislien).

We would like to share some of the highlights from the conference.

The seminar may be of interest to a general mathematics audience at the centre, and possibly not only those that teach statistics.
