Co-constructive mastery based learning in mathematics
Lashi Bandara is a global analyst at Deakin University working on geometric problems using operator theory and real-variable harmonic analysis. He will give a seminar at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences on co-constructive mastery-based learning in mathematics, presenting an active-learning model in which students set target grades and demonstrate mastery through structured formative feedback and visible engagement.
Abstract: "In this talk, I will present a method of learning and teaching used at Deakin University with a focus on mastery. In this active-learning model, students are given the opportunity to set a target grade and demonstrate mastery to the learning objectives of that grade through a co-constructed learning paradigm. The currency of the model is formative feedback with assurance of learning obtained through enhanced visibility and engagement."
About the speaker: Lashi Bandara is a global analyst working on geometric problems using operator theory and real-variable harmonic analysis. In teaching, he is passionate and driven by evidence-based teaching practices and enjoys the challenge of diverse classrooms.
