Gunther Uhlmann is visiting Lund to receive the Sven Berggren Prize from the Royal Physiographic Society of Lund and will give the Sven Berggren lecture with the title "Visibility and invisibility" aimed at a broad audience at the Society's meeting on Wednesday, Oct 7, 18.30 in Piratensalen at Grand Hotel. The lecture is open to the public. In addition, he will give an extra-ordinary colloquium at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences on Thursday, Oct 8, 14.00-15.00 in the Gårding lecture hall. Title: Electrical Impedance Tomography and Calderon's Problem

Abstract:
We will discuss  some of the progress made on Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) in the last 46 years since Alberto Calderon proposed the problem in the mathematical literature. In EIT one attempts to determine the electrical conductivity of a medium by making voltage and current measurements at the boundary. It is a prototypical example of an inverse boundary value problem which are non-invasive methods to make an image of the interior of a medium by making measurements at the boundary.
