Stellar clusters, black holes and planetary systems
Most stars form within stellar clusters. These clusters are hostile environments where close encounters between stars can destabilise planetary systems and produce exotic objects such as black holes within tight binaries which then spiral together and merge via the emission of gravitational waves. Modelling such clusters is challenging due in part to the enormous range of timescales of processes occurring within them. These challenges may be overcome using a number of approaches.

Adaptive Methods for Partial Differential Equations
Besides a brief overview on my research interests I'll discuss some aspects of my work on adaptive finite element methods for partial differential equations in more detail.
